WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
You'll help us build a modern data platform within our Data and Analytics area. We aim to provide shared data foundations across the company so that teams can treat data as a product and move fast while staying secure, compliant, and consistent by default.
You'll work on core platform capabilities, from the data catalog and self-service data lake access provisioning to Snowflake dbt runtimes, data quality, and computational governance. Your work will reduce friction for engineers and analysts by turning complex infrastructure and governance requirements into simple, reusable platform building blocks.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Data Catalog Ownership. Own and evolve our data catalog built on OpenMetadata, including custom Python connectors for in-house sources, column-level lineage from our legacy DWH, and governance automation covering glossaries, classifications, and data quality test cases. This includes maintaining the integrations that tie catalog metadata to access control, so that what's described in the catalog reflects what's actually governed in the platform.
Snowflake Platform Engineering. Support and evolve the Snowflake platform underpinning our ongoing MS SQL migration, including dbt runtimes, role and privilege management, Iceberg table integration, and private connectivity patterns. You'll work at the boundary between infrastructure and data engineering.
Reusable Component Design. Design and maintain platform components that data engineers and analysts actually want to use. That includes standardized data contracts using Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS), dbt testing patterns, data quality checks wired into OpenMetadata, and Terraform modules that encode access and governance patterns as guardrails, including cross-account S3 and Lake Formation access patterns where relevant.
Cross-Functional Collaboration. Work closely with data engineers, analysts, and product teams to ensure data is secure, reliable, discoverable, and easy to consume.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Strong AWS experience is essential, specifically S3, IAM, AWS Glue (as a metadata and crawling layer), and Lake Formation. Hands-on experience with cross-account access patterns matters more than breadth across services.
Solid SQL and Python skills, with experience building or operating data platform services, custom connectors, or ingestion pipelines. You should be comfortable reading and writing Python that runs in production.
Practical Terraform experience, specifically writing and maintaining modules others consume. Terragrunt familiarity is a plus.
Experience extending or operating open-source data platform tools, whether data catalogs, metadata systems, or quality frameworks. OpenMetadata experience is a meaningful advantage.
Familiarity with Snowflake, either as a user, administrator, or someone who has written dbt models against it. This will grow into a core part of the role.
Understanding of data contracts, schemas, and how to make data interfaces explicit and reliable.
A platform engineering mindset, thinking in terms of paved roads, reusable components, and developer experience. You treat governance as a design problem, not a checkbox.
Comfort working in a regulated environment. You don't need a compliance background, but you should be able to engage seriously with audit requirements and traceability obligations.
Experience with Docker and basic CI/CD. Kubernetes familiarity is a plus.
You already reside in Estonia as we don't offer relocation for this role.
